Many businesses unknowingly sabotage their own affiliate programs, and it's often a painful sight to behold. These are some of the situations I have faced during my time managing affiliate programs. All or some of them may occur for a client, and there are more that I’ll save for another occasion.

So, here are the foolproof steps to ensure your affiliate program goes down in flames:

2️⃣ Provide minimal support.

3️⃣ Implement monthly budget capping.

4️⃣ Allocate no additional budget for investment.

5️⃣ End partnerships without prior notice.

6️⃣ Maintain a high percentage of cancellations.

7️⃣ Delay payments.

Clients can be creative; they can use all these steps in order, in another order, add new ones, or select their favourites.

Now, don't you dare follow these steps if you actually want your affiliate program to succeed! Instead, flip the script:

Engage with your affiliates, set realistic goals, provide support, ensure timely payments, and offer competitive commissions. Your affiliates are your partners, not your adversaries. Treat them well, and watch your program thrive.
